DAY TWO…

We were lucky enough to wake up to blue skies and a beautiful vista over the mountains from our balconies! Perfect for a day of skiing! Breakfast ran from 7am to 8am in the main restaurant and once again, the same as the night before, multiple teachers commented on the great spread and quality of food and drinks available. Then it was time to get kitted up and meet in the boot room in the basement of the hotel to gather the rest of our gear then meet with our instructors for our first morning of skiing.

The ski school and one of the main lifts is situated right behind the ski fit shop, so everyone knew the meeting place well from yesterday. We split into three groups of beginner, intermediate and advanced but with intermediate and advance mostly skiing together. Our three instructors from the Scuola di Sci Ponte Tonale were all truly excellent. They gave solid skiing advice, especially to the lower ability group, but also did a great job of explaining the layout of the resort and pistes and how well Passo Tonale is suited to school groups. We completed the two hour instructed session from 9am to 11am (with only a few falls…!) before then splitting off into logical groups depending on standard, families etc.

Between the whole group, much of the terrain was covered, with some of the stronger skiers heading over to the black runs on ‘the other side’, Passo Presena, Tonale’s pinnacle at 3000m (and ensured they took plenty of photos to prove it!). The group, wherever they found themselves, enjoyed a hot chocolate or two in the many excellent mountain cafes/restaurants/bars and the vast majority of the group met for lunch at the Serodine, ensuring vast quantities of burgers, pizzas and pasta was consumed!

The afternoon consisted of more of the same with groups splitting out naturally into those of similar levels and everyone enjoyed the fantastic visibility and snow conditions. Most finished up around 4pm and a few had a beer or two at the bottom of the mountain before heading back to the rooms for a shower and change – it was perfect having the boot room where we could leave all our kit in the bottom of the hotel.

Dinner was just as good as the evening before then a few drinks were enjoyed in the hotel bar – some even stayed up to watch the Tyson Fury fight before hitting the hay in preparation for day 3.
